Confidence in Your Skin

Acne might not go away overnight, but there are lots of things you can do to help you remember the person behind the skin. Kick out the confidence issues and become your own best friend with these tips…

Dedicate an entire evening or maybe one lazy Sunday afternoon, to completely pampering yourself. Starting off with a long relaxing bath and a moisturizing facial mask, spend time on every part of yourself that you’d usually ignore. Pay attention on fixing your hair into your favorite style, try on all your favorite clothes and think about why they are your favorite. Maybe a particular t-shirt holds some great memories, or a certain pair of jeans make you feel drop dead gorgeous. Pay careful attention to any positive thoughts or feelings you have and make a note of them (though this shouldn’t distract you from the very important task of feeling good about yourself though!) If you have a down-day, you can look back at these notes and they will help you realize how much there is to you.

Look at yourself in the mirror directly in the eyes. Think about all the good things you do or have done. This is a great thing to do at the end of every day before you go to bed – look at yourself and think of the great things that happened that day. When you go to bed you’ll feel a lot more positive and should get a better nights sleep too!

A great tip for confidence building is repeated affirmations. Every day write down one good thing about yourself and stick it somewhere you are likely to see it regularly, like your bathroom mirror or bedroom door. Each day you need to write something brand new. These don’t have to be things like ‘I’m Kind’ or “I’m Nice”, they can be anything that you like about yourself, like “I am great at finding bargains when I go shopping”, or “I really kick ass at video games”!

Learn to be kind to yourself. That little voice inside your head can be pretty mean sometimes (I know mine can!), but with a little concentration you can learn to change the way you internally speak to yourself. Just remember – speak to yourself the way you would speak to your best friend. If your best friend sat opposite you and was really upset about his or her looks, would you call them a freak? Well…I hope not anyway! This one takes a long time to learn, and you’ll still have days where you are self-criticizing, but the less you can do it the better. Give yourself a little credit now and then.

If you have any tips of your own then please share them with us! Let us know if you try any of these yourself and how they worked out for you.
